A dilemma is a problem offering two possibilities, neither of which is unambiguously acceptable or preferable. The possibilities are termed the horns of the dilemma, a clichéd usage, but distinguishing the dilemma from other kinds of predicament as a matter of usage.

Use of dilemma is restricted to some situations. When neither unconditional affirmation of antecedent nor unconditional denial of consequents is possible, logician may use the dilemma. It indicates ignorance. When we face dilemma we only try to avoid, but not to negate. There are three different ways in which we can try to avoid dilemma.
