After independence, the Indian government launched various tribal welfare and development programs aimed at improving the standard of living of tribal communities. While these programs have improved access to resources, they have also integrated tribal populations into the formal economy, reducing their reliance on subsistence practices and forest-based livelihoods. Industrialization and urbanization have also played a critical role in reshaping tribal economies. The establishment of industries, mining operations, and large-scale infrastructure projects in and around tribal areas has disrupted traditional occupations. Mining, for instance, has led to displacement from ancestral lands, depriving tribal communities of access to forest resources, fertile land, and water sources.
