In the ethnographic work *Himalayan Polyandry: Structure, Functioning and Culture Change* by Majumdar, a detailed anthropological exploration is undertaken into the complex institution of fraternal polyandry in the Jaunsar-Bawar region of the Indian Himalayas. Fieldwork Concerns Majumdar's ethnographic study was conducted during a time when the methodological framework of anthropology was shifting from armchair theorizing to active field engagement. His work reflects the then-developing norms of participant observation, structured interviews, genealogical mapping, and case studies. A primary concern during his fieldwork was the challenge of accessing and gaining the trust of the community, especially when investigating sensitive issues like marriage systems, sexuality, and inheritance.
