Gandhi was deeply influenced by Hinduism, yet his vision went far beyond any single tradition. His religion was rooted in ethical practice, truth, and love, rather than rituals or dogmas. He constantly emphasized that religion, to be genuine, must uplift humanity and promote harmony, not divide people into sects. At the core of Gandhi’s religious philosophy was the principle of *Satya* (Truth). He held that Truth is God and God is Truth, thereby shifting religion from the external realm of practices and customs to an internal realization of universal principles. For Gandhi, truth was not the property of one religion or tradition but the essence of all. Thus, his religion was universal in scope. He acknowledged the partial nature of every religious tradition, suggesting that no faith could claim monopoly over truth.
