Explain the working of Mobile IP.

Mobile IP is a communication protocol that allows mobile devices (such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops) to move from one network to another while maintaining a permanent IP address. It is a part of mobile computing that facilitates seamless and continuous internet connectivity for mobile users, regardless of their physical location. Developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), Mobile IP is crucial in ensuring that applications such as email, VoIP, and streaming services are not interrupted as a user changes networks. The protocol is most commonly used in wireless and mobile environments, such as cellular networks and Wi-Fi.

Overview of Mobile IP

In a traditional IP network, a device's IP address is tied to a specific physical network. If a device moves to another network, its IP address must change to reflect the new network’s addressing scheme. This change disrupts ongoing communication sessions. Mobile IP overcomes this limitation by assigning a permanent home address to the mobile device (known as the Mobile Node, or MN), regardless of its current location.

Mobile IP introduces the concept of a home agent (HA) and a foreign agent (FA), as well as the idea of tunneling to route packets from a device’s home network to its current location.

Key Components of Mobile IP

1. Mobile Node (MN):
   This is the mobile device that moves across different networks while maintaining its original IP address.

2. Home Agent (HA):
   A router on the MN’s home network that tracks the MN’s current location. The HA intercepts packets destined for the MN’s home address and forwards them to the MN’s current location using tunneling.

3. Foreign Agent (FA):
   A router on the visited network that assists the MN by providing routing services. It acts as a liaison between the MN and the HA.
