1. Carbon to Nitrogen Ratio (C:N Ratio)  
   One of the most important factors in composting is the Carbon to Nitrogen (C:N) ratio. Carbon is the energy source for the microorganisms that decompose organic matter, while nitrogen is needed for the synthesis of proteins. An ideal C:N ratio for composting is approximately 30:1. If the ratio is too high (more carbon), the decomposition process becomes slow, as microorganisms lack sufficient nitrogen for growth. Conversely, a low C:N ratio (excess nitrogen) leads to the rapid decomposition of materials, but may cause odors due to the production of ammonia. Balancing the C:N ratio by adding a mix of carbon-rich materials (e.g., leaves, straw) and nitrogen-rich materials (e.g., food scraps, manure) is crucial for an efficient composting process.

2. Moisture Content  
   The moisture content in compost is another vital factor. Microorganisms involved in composting require a certain amount of moisture to function effectively.
