The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) was established under the Energy Conservation Act, 2001 to promote energy efficiency and conservation in India. BEE has introduced various schemes to enhance energy management across industries, commercial establishments, and households. These schemes aim to reduce energy consumption, improve energy security, and promote sustainable development.  

### 1. Standards & Labeling (S&L) Scheme  
The Standards & Labeling Program was launched to improve the energy efficiency of electrical appliances. Under this scheme, BEE assigns a star rating (from 1 to 5 stars) to appliances based on their energy efficiency. The higher the star rating, the more energy-efficient the product. This helps consumers make informed decisions while purchasing appliances. Some of the key appliances covered include air conditioners, refrigerators, ceiling fans, LED lights, and washing machines.  

### 2. Perform, Achieve & Trade (PAT) Scheme  
The PAT Scheme is a market-based mechanism aimed at improving energy efficiency in energy-intensive industries. Under this scheme, designated consumers (DCs) from sectors like thermal power plants, iron & steel, cement, textiles, and aluminum are given specific energy reduction targets.
