Export promotion schemes presently in operation in India for food are designed to enhance the competitiveness of Indian food products in international markets while ensuring compliance with food laws and standards. These schemes are implemented mainly through the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA), and other export promotion councils functioning under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. They operate in alignment with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and international food safety requirements such as Codex Alimentarius standards, sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) measures, and technical barriers to trade (TBT) norms. The Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products (RoDTEP) scheme is one of the key export promotion measures.
