Menstruation in India is often enveloped in silence and stigma. One of the most pervasive cultural practices is the idea that menstruation is impure. This belief is rooted in religious and mythological traditions, where menstruating women are considered ritually unclean. In Hindu households, for example, menstruating girls and women are often prohibited from entering the kitchen, temples, or participating in religious ceremonies. This exclusion is not merely a private family practice but is reinforced by community expectations and norms. Women are also discouraged from touching pickles or preparing food, based on the belief that their touch can spoil food items due to their impure status during menstruation.
