Pollution Levels Soar in City, Raising Health Concerns

A thick haze of smog has blanketed our city over the past week, causing air pollution levels to spike to dangerous levels not seen in years. Residents have complained of burning eyes, breathing difficulties, and an overall feeling of malaise as the murky pall refuses to dissipate.

According to data from the Central Air Monitoring Station, particulate matter (PM 2.5) readings have averaged 150 micrograms per cubic meter over the last seven days - six times higher than the safe limit of 25 micrograms prescribed by the World Health Organization. Similarly, nitrogen dioxide and sulfur dioxide emissions are three to four times higher than normal baselines.
