The Upanishads are ancient philosophical texts that form the concluding part of the Vedic literature. They are often referred to as Vedanta, meaning the “end of the Vedas,” both in a temporal sense, because they are the last portions of the Vedic corpus, and in a philosophical sense, because they represent the culmination of Vedic thought. The Upanishads aim at exploring the ultimate reality, the nature of the self, and the relationship between the individual and the cosmos.
