Sedimentary exhalative (SEDEX) deposits are a type of stratiform, syngenetic mineral deposit formed from hydrothermal fluids exhaled onto the seafloor in sedimentary basins. These deposits primarily consist of lead (Pb), zinc (Zn), and silver (Ag), often occurring as finely laminated sulfide ores within fine-grained siliciclastic or carbonate host rocks. SEDEX deposits are typically found in rifted continental margins, intracratonic basins, or back-arc basins where deep-seated hydrothermal activity is driven by tectonic extension.  

The mineralization process in SEDEX deposits begins when metal-bearing hydrothermal fluids, derived from deep crustal sources, migrate through fault systems and vent onto the seafloor. Upon mixing with cold seawater, the metals precipitate as sulfide minerals, forming laminated ore bodies.
