A university is an institution established for the advancement of knowledge through teaching, learning, research, innovation and extension activities. The university library is an essential academic and intellectual component of this system. It is not merely a storehouse of books and documents but a dynamic centre for the collection, organisation, preservation and dissemination of knowledge. Teaching is one of the fundamental functions of a university, and the library plays a significant role in making teaching more effective. Faculty members require current and authoritative information for preparing lectures, designing courses, developing reading lists and updating their knowledge. The university library acquires resources related to different disciplines and makes them available to teachers. Bibliographies, subject guides, reference services, current-awareness services and digital resources help teachers remain informed about recent developments in their fields.
