The Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) is one of the most prominent non-violent social movements in post-Gandhian India. Rooted in the Gandhian ethos of peaceful resistance and civil disobedience, the NBA emerged in the 1980s in response to the large-scale displacement and environmental degradation caused by the construction of dams on the Narmada River, especially the Sardar Sarovar Dam.
