MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) is a key instrument on board two NASA Earth Observing System (EOS) satellites, Terra and Aqua. MODIS was designed to provide measurements of a wide range of environmental variables including land, ocean, and atmospheric parameters. The instrument provides global coverage every one to two days with a spatial resolution ranging from 250 meters to one kilometer.

MODIS was developed by a collaborative effort between NASA, the Goddard Space Flight Center, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
