 While the first ethnography, Identity Gender and Poverty: New Perspectives onCaste and Tribe in Rajasthan focuses more on externally conceived identitiesbetween groups and gender as a boundary making mechanism; the second one,Autonomy: Life Cycle, Gender and Status among Himalayan pastoralists writtenby Aparna Rao, deals with the construction of selves and individuals in relationto their own society and how such constructions inform the distribution of in-group resources. In other words, the first ethnography is more concerned withidentities between groups and the second one with identities within the group.While the first deals with social definitions of groups as castes or tribes, thesecond deals with concepts of personhood and agency at levels of individuals.
