Muhammad Qasim Hindu Shah Astarabadi, popularly known as Firishta (c. 1560–1620), was one of the most important Persian historians of medieval India. Originally from Astarabad in Persia (modern Iran), he migrated to the Deccan at a young age and entered the service of the rulers of the Deccan Sultanates. He spent much of his career under the patronage of Ibrahim Adil Shah II of Bijapur, where he composed his celebrated historical work, *Tarikh-i-Firishta*, also known as *Gulshan-i-Ibrahimi*. *Tarikh-i-Firishta* is regarded as one of the most valuable sources for the political history of medieval India, especially the Deccan.
