The National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) was launched by the Government of India in June 2008 as a comprehensive framework to address the challenges of climate change in a sustainable and inclusive manner. Recognizing that India is highly vulnerable to the adverse impacts of climate change such as rising temperatures, unpredictable monsoons, glacier melting, and sea-level rise, the NAPCC seeks to balance developmental priorities with the imperative of environmental protection. It emphasizes a shift towards a low-carbon economy, improved energy efficiency, and greater reliance on renewable energy sources while ensuring inclusive growth and poverty eradication. The NAPCC is built upon eight core missions that represent multi-pronged and long-term strategies for sustainable development. The first mission under the NAPCC is the National Solar Mission, which was launched with the objective of establishing India as a global leader in solar energy.
