Alitta succinea (Clam worm)
The ragworm obtains its food by spinning a mucus net at the entrance of its shelter to trap phytoplankton, zooplankton, bacteria, and diatoms. The ragworm then rolls the net up and swallows it. The ragworm uses strong lightweight jaws to catch small invertebrates. When food enters the ragworm's digestive tract, it first enters the muscular pharynx from the mouth. From the pharynx, food is passed to the esophagus where the food begins to be broken down. From the esophagus, food enters the crop and gizzard where the food is broken down further.
