The General Adaptation Syndrome is thought to be the main reason why stress is such an abundant source of health problems. By changing the way our body normally functions, stress disrupts the natural balance, which is called the homeostasis and that which is very crucial for one’s well being. It can also subtract years from our lives by speeding up the aging process.

The physical effects, there are psychological and mental reactions to stress:

Anxiety, acute or chronic
Depression (especially when stress is chronic)
Anger, hostility and rage
Irritability
Decreased concentration and memory

When people feel stressed, they generally experience fear or anxiety. Others respond by getting angry at the cause or perceived cause of stress. In addition, numerous studies have shown these emotions increase the risk of heart problems.
