Sri Aurobindo's concept of Involution and Evolution forms one of the central pillars of his integral philosophy. He viewed existence as a dynamic process in which the Divine Reality manifests itself progressively in the universe. According to him, the world is not an accidental creation or a meaningless mechanical process but the expression of the Supreme Consciousness unfolding through different stages. Involution refers to the descent of the Divine Consciousness into matter, while Evolution is the gradual emergence of that hidden consciousness from matter toward its original divine fullness. Involution is the process by which the Supreme Being, or Sachchidananda—Existence, Consciousness, and Bliss—conceals itself in creation. The Infinite Reality gradually descends through various planes such as Supermind, Mind, Life, and finally Matter.
