The Chakmas are one of the important tribal communities inhabiting the northeastern region of India, particularly Mizoram. They are concentrated mainly in the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC), located in the southern part of Mizoram, bordering Bangladesh. The Chakmas have a distinctive ethnic identity, language, cultural traditions and social organisation.
