Sri Aurobindo's philosophy of education is deeply intertwined with his broader vision of human evolution, the purpose of life, and the spiritual growth of individuals. He viewed education as a holistic process, aiming not merely at imparting knowledge but at fostering the growth of the entire being—physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual. Education, for Aurobindo, was not a mechanical acquisition of facts but a means to unlock the full potential of the individual, guiding them towards a higher consciousness and a deeper understanding of their true nature. 

Aurobindo believed that education should be designed to facilitate the development of all aspects of the self, which he categorized into four planes: the physical, mental, vital, and spiritual. According to him, traditional education focused predominantly on the intellectual and physical aspects, often neglecting the vital and spiritual dimensions. In his vision, education needed to go beyond mere information transfer to include the cultivation of the emotional and spiritual faculties, leading to a harmonious development of the whole being.

One of the key elements of Aurobindo’s philosophy of education is the idea of self-realization. He believed that the ultimate goal of education should be to help individuals realize their true nature, which he understood as being divine in essence. For him, this process of self-realization was not confined to a particular religious or cultural framework but was universal in scope.
