Dalit eschatology refers to the Dalit understanding of the ultimate destiny of human beings and society, grounded not in supernatural beliefs but in the struggle for justice, equality, dignity, and liberation in this world. Unlike traditional religious eschatologies that emphasize heaven, hell, karma, rebirth, or salvation after death, Dalit eschatology shifts attention to the transformation of present social conditions. It is deeply influenced by the experiences of caste oppression, untouchability, exclusion, and exploitation. Its philosophical basis is found primarily in the writings and thought of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the Buddhist reinterpretation of social ethics, and the broader movement for human emancipation. It rejects metaphysical speculations that justify inequality and instead affirms a material and historical vision of human liberation. The basis of Dalit eschatology lies in the lived experiences of Dalits rather than in scriptural authority. Dalit thinkers argue that religious doctrines have often been used to legitimize caste hierarchy by presenting it as divinely ordained or as the result of deeds performed in previous births. The doctrines of karma and rebirth, especially as interpreted within orthodox Brahmanical traditions, are viewed as ideological instruments that encourage acceptance of suffering rather than resistance against injustice. Dalit philosophy therefore questions the moral legitimacy of such doctrines and proposes an alternative understanding in which social oppression is created by human institutions and can be abolished through human action.
