In statistical analysis, a frequency distribution is a systematic arrangement of data that shows how often different values or classes occur in a dataset. It is an important tool in research methodology because raw data collected through observation, surveys, experiments, interviews, or other research methods are often difficult to understand when presented in an unorganized form. Frequency distributions summarize large amounts of data and make it easier to identify patterns, compare groups, calculate statistical measures, and interpret research findings. Two important forms of frequency distribution are discrete frequency distribution and continuous frequency distribution. The observations do not take every possible value within an interval. Instead, they occur as specific numerical values. Discrete data are usually obtained through counting rather than measurement. In a discrete frequency distribution, each individual value of the variable is generally listed separately, followed by its corresponding frequency.
