The pancreas is both an endocrine gland and an exocrine gland. The pancreas performs two main functions: an exocrine function that helps in digestion and an endocrine function that regulates blood sugar. Approximately 99% of pancreas forms exocrine part. It is made of the closely packed acini arranged into lobules. Each pancreatic acinus consists of pyramid-shaped, zymogenic cells. These cells surround a small central lumen.
