Describe briefly about the relevance of indigenous environmental knowledge.

Indigenous knowledge is a “complete knowledge system with its own concepts of epistemology, and its own scientific and logical validity” .

Western Knowledge is also known as western science. It is knowledge that relies on the established laws through the application of the scientific method to the phenomena. Its method begins with an observation and is followed by a prediction or hypothesis that has to be tested.

Among Indigenous knowledge characteristics there is its practicality and dynamicity, derived mainly from contextual and cultural changes, which requires indigenou s peoples to constantly renegotiate with their environment.maintaining their knowledge system in constant evolution. Indigenous knowledge “represents  generations of creative thought and action within each individ ual community, as it struggles with an ever -changing set of conditions and problems”Because of these strong contextual and cultural connections indigenous knowledge becomes an essential part of indigenous peoples’ lives as it provides the necessary means of survival. Indeed, it is usually “driven by the pragmatic, utilitarian and everyday demands of life”which are influenced also by non -indigenous elements, such as indigenous response to innovation
