# Entrepreneurship Entrepreneurship refers to the process of identifying business opportunities, organizing and combining resources, taking calculated risks, and creating value through the establishment and management of a business venture. An entrepreneur is a person who converts an idea or opportunity into a productive economic activity by bringing together land, labour, capital, technology, and managerial skills. Entrepreneurship is therefore not limited to starting a business; it also involves innovation, risk-bearing, decision-making, leadership, and the continuous search for new opportunities. In the context of small business, entrepreneurship plays a particularly important role because small enterprises often depend on the initiative, creativity, and personal efforts of entrepreneurs for their establishment and growth. Entrepreneurship is an important component of economic development because it mobilizes resources that may otherwise remain unused or underutilized. Entrepreneurs identify gaps in the market and introduce products and services to satisfy consumer needs. They establish manufacturing units, trading enterprises, service businesses, technology ventures, and other forms of small enterprises. In doing so, they contribute to production, income generation, capital formation, employment creation, innovation, regional development, and improvement in the standard of living. Two of its most significant economic contributions are capital formation and employment generation. Capital formation refers to the process through which savings are transformed into productive assets such as machinery, buildings, equipment, technology, inventories, and infrastructure. Entrepreneurship contributes to capital formation by converting financial and other resources into productive investments. An entrepreneur identifies a profitable opportunity and invests personal savings or mobilizes funds from banks, financial institutions, investors, government schemes, family members, or other sources. These funds are used to establish or expand business activities. Thus, entrepreneurship provides an important link between savings and productive investment. Entrepreneurs play a major role in mobilizing idle savings. Individuals may possess savings but may not have the knowledge, confidence, or willingness to invest them directly in productive activities.
