The rise of the Bahmani Kingdom marked a significant chapter in the history of medieval India. Established in 1347 CE, the Bahmani Sultanate emerged as a prominent Muslim state in the Deccan region and played a crucial role in shaping the political and cultural landscape of the Indian subcontinent. The rise of the Bahmani Kingdom can be attributed to several factors, including regional conflicts, political alliances, and the presence of a diverse population in the Deccan.

The political situation in the Deccan before the rise of the Bahmani Kingdom was characterized by multiple Hindu and Muslim states vying for power. The Delhi Sultanate, which was ruling over northern India, faced challenges in maintaining control over the Deccan due to its geographical distance and the resistance offered by local Hindu kingdoms. These circumstances created an opportunity for ambitious local chieftains to assert their authority and establish their own kingdoms.

One such chieftain was Hasan Gangu, who served as a commander in the Kakatiya dynasty of Warangal. Hasan Gangu, also known as Ala-ud-Din Hasan Bahman Shah, rebelled against the Kakatiya dynasty and declared independence in 1347 CE. He established the Bahmani Sultanate with Gulbarga as its capital. The new kingdom initially comprised the region of the Deccan, encompassing present-day Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Telangana.
