Analyse the telecom policies and their impact on telecom sector.

The India Telecom Policy adopted by the Government aims at improving India's competitiveness in the global market and rapid growth of exports. Another element of the India Telecom Policy is attracting foreign direct investment and stimulating domestic investment. Telecommunication Services of world class quality are necessary for the success of this India Telecom Policy. It is, therefore, necessary to give the highest priority to the development of Telecom Services in the country.

Telecom policy of India has been in controversies and government of India decided to change the same to clear it of its controversial nature. The government decided to adopt a new telecom policy of India 2011 that is in conformity with the contemporary standards. The first national telecom policy of India was written in 1994. It was subsequently reformulated as the new telecom policy in 1999 and was also amended in 2004. Now proposals have been given to formulate national telecom policy of India 2011.
