Beeswax, commonly referred to as beehive wax, is a natural wax produced by worker honey bees of the species Apis mellifera and other Apis species. It is secreted from specialized wax glands located on the underside of the abdomen of young worker bees, usually between 12 to 18 days of age. The wax is initially secreted as small, translucent scales, which the bees collect and chew with their mandibles, mixing it with saliva and small amounts of pollen and propolis.
