The National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) was launched by the Government of India in 2008 as a strategic effort to address the challenges posed by climate change while continuing to support India’s economic growth. The plan reflects India’s commitment towards sustainable development, recognizing the need to balance environmental protection with the growing energy demands of a large developing economy. The NAPCC provides a comprehensive framework through which India aims to promote understanding of climate change, accelerate the deployment of clean technologies, and enhance resilience to climate-related impacts. The core objective of the NAPCC is to promote sustainable development through eight core national missions, each targeting a specific area of concern related to climate change. These missions focus on advancing low-carbon growth and improving climate resilience across sectors such as energy, agriculture, water, forestry, and urban planning. The emphasis is placed on promoting renewable energy, enhancing energy efficiency, improving water use, protecting forests, and increasing adaptation measures for vulnerable sectors.
