Sustainable green building construction has emerged as an important entrepreneurial sector because traditional construction practices consume large amounts of energy, raw materials, and water while producing significant carbon emissions. Startups in this sector aim to develop eco-friendly construction materials, energy-efficient designs, and innovative building technologies that reduce environmental impact. Several startups across the world, particularly in India, are working toward sustainable construction by utilizing recycled materials, agricultural waste, and low-carbon technologies. Four such startups practising sustainable green building construction are discussed below. One notable startup is GreenJams, a cleantech construction-materials company based in Visakhapatnam. The company develops innovative carbon-negative building materials that help reduce greenhouse gas emissions during construction. Its flagship product, Agrocrete, is made from agricultural residues such as rice straw, cotton stalks, and bagasse along with industrial by-products. This material replaces traditional bricks and blocks while offering improved thermal insulation and lower construction costs.
